North Lake Tahoe has been in a limbo with the weather; the days here have been sunny with the temperature highs in the mid-60s, down to the low 30s at night. But even though Mother Nature hasn’t brushed in any storms (it is still early), a few local ski resorts have announced their opening dates: Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe has one lift already spinning! To help usher in the 2019-20 winter season (and celebrate Thanksgiving right), here are some annual favorite events surrounding food, family, and shredding the slopes:
FOOD
November 2, 6pm — 31st Annual Chocolate and Wine Festival at Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe
What pairs better than chocolate and wine, especially against the gorgeous backdrop of Lake Tahoe? On November 2, everyone is invited to convene at the Lakeside Ballroom at the Hyatt to enjoy delectable cocoa creations and California boutique wine. This year, the chocolate and wine festival is celebrating the new Sierra Community House, a joint effort between four nonprofits to better help the community. November 7 — Passport to Dining at the North Tahoe Event Center
In Kings Beach on November 7, more than 30 of Tahoe’s top restaurants, breweries, wineries, and caterers will provide the community with unlimited tastings of their best offerings. Along with showcasing and trying Tahoe’s best food and drinks, the event will also include a raffle, silent auction, and North Tahoe’s Most Flavorful Fundraiser with a portion of the proceeds going to the Sierra Community House. November 28 — 9th Annual Tahoe Community Thanksgiving Celebration
If you’re looking to somewhere for Thanksgiving that involves food, fun, and making new friends, then head over to the North Tahoe Event Center for a big free feast (donations are encouraged). Open to everyone, the Tahoe Community Thanksgiving Celebration is vegetarian friendly and is also a kick-off party for Toys for Tots. November 2, 11am — Bowl for Families at Bowl Incline
To benefit Tahoe Family Services in the spirit of Día de Los Muertos, TFS is hosting its annual Bowl for Families in which families can participate in free bowling, sugar skulls, pizza, folkloric dancers, and mariachi music. SKIING
November 6, 7pm — Watch The Collective Film at Alibi Incline Public House
Starting at 7pm at the new Alibi on Highway 28 in Incline Village, Faction Skis will be sharing The Collective (a new ski flick) on the big screen. North Lake Tahoe Ski Resorts Opening in November
Mt. Rose — Already Open: Mt. Rose–Ski Tahoe, Tahoe’s highest base ski resort, celebrated its opening weekend on October 25th, thanks to its snowmaking capabilities. Mt. Rose will continue to offer snowboarding and skiing if conditions permit. www.skirose.com
Squaw Valley — November 15: Squaw Valley is setting up its snow guns and waiting for the temperatures drop so that it can start covering its slopes with the white stuff. , followed by a Welcome to Winter Party on November 30 involving local deejays, raffles, and Merry Days & Holly Nights Tree Lighting Ceremony. www.squawalpine.com
