Cathedral Gorge Dutch Oven Cook-Off
It’s an event that grows larger and more popular every year, so if you like good outdoor cooking, then you’ll probably like Dutch oven cooking.
And for Dutch oven cooking done at its best, plan to attend the Annual Dutch Oven Cook-Off at Cathedral Gorge State Park near Panaca, Sept. 15, 1- 7p.m.
A tasty affair when cooks put their culinary skills to the test and win great prizes.
It’s something promoted by the Lincoln Community Action Team with the cooperation of the Nevada Commission on Tourism and sponsored by Nevada State Parks.
Four categories in which cooks are competing include Main dish, Bread, Side/Vegetable dish and Desserts.
Individuals and teams can compete in more than one category and are responsible for providing their own food and supplies and doing cleanup.
All cooking is to be done in a Dutch oven with everything cooked on site.
The annual cook-off is a friendly, non-sanctioned event that attracts attendees from all around the state, some even from out of state, as well as family, friends and the rest of us who just like good eating.
It is free to attend, but there is a $5 per car fee at the park entrance. Children under the age of 16 may enter the contest with a parent or guardian’s signature.
State Parks interpreter Dawn Andone notes, “We look forward to this each year. Come out and join the fun, good food, and raffles at Cathedral Gorge State Park.”
