Lincoln County Spring and Summer

Here in Lincoln County we probably will not have to wait long to see some of in state tourists.  Out-of-state tourists are welcome just as much.

The Lincoln Community Action Team (LCAT) has released their 2019 events calendar for the year.

However, for this article, we will focus just on activities in the month of May. That should give you time to arrange your own schedule to include a trip to Lincoln County again.  If you haven’t visited here in some time, why not?  If this might be your first trip, you will find plenty so as not to make it your last.

The Best in the Desert Silver State 300, the largest off-road race series in North America, takes place May 2-5. This point-to-point loop style race starts north of Alamo and finishes at the abandoned runway just west of Caliente.

You might still have time to catch the Las Vegas Astronomical Society’s Cathedral Gorge Campout and Star Party, May 3-4 near Panaca.

Join the Las Vegas Astronomical Society at one or both of the Cathedral Gorge Campout and Star Parties, held at Cathedral Gorge State Park. These events are usually graced with two nights of clear dark skies – a great opportunity to get out and observe some of the Wonders of the Night Sky. All astronomers and visitors are welcome. Or you might consider the Cinco de Mayo “Tacos & Ritas” party sponsored by the Caliente Beautification Committee, VFW Lodge, and Shamrock Bar, at the clock island in Caliente, May 4 at 1 p.m. Indian Carne Asade Street Tacos, Chips and Salsa, Beer, Ritas, Lemonade, and water.
In addition, the Caliente Citywide and Beyond Yard Sale will take place May 4 beginning at 10 a.m.

But in case you miss these three events, do the best you can to plan to attend the Memorial Day Celebration in Caliente, May 24-27.

This is the one the main social events in the County, along with the 4th of July observances in Caliente and Alamo and the Pioche Labor Day Observance.

For Memorial Day weekend, Caliente will be decked out in its finest.

There will be a full slate of activities for the annual celebration. A gallery display of the works of local artists, LCHS graduation in Panaca May 24, a parking lot dance at the Knotty Pine, the Caliente Memorial Day parade May 25, a softball tournament at Dixon Memorial Park May 24-26, the Heritage Box Car Museum, a mouthwatering BBQ at LCAT has more scheduled for later in the summer, but that is for another time.

For the Nevada traveler this year, admittedly there may not be more to see or do in Lincoln County as in some other counties of the state, but what you do see will be enjoyable if you’ve a mind to let it be.
