Elko Correspondence – October 2019

Fall is definitely here in Elko, and that means plenty of great events in October.

The Murals Are Done

The last week in September saw the mural artists descend on Elko for the Elko Mural Project. Even with less than favorable weather, the muralists tackled their wall with lots of energy. Come downtown and spend an hour or more enjoying the wonderful art. FMI: https://www.facebook.com/Elko-Arts-and-Culture-Advisory-Board-446390528764116/.

Climb Down the Ladder — This Painting is Done

As part of the mural project, the Western Folklife Center is hosting an indoor exhibit with works of the muralists. This exhibit is in the Wiegand Gallery through December, 2019. FMI: https://www.westernfolklife.org/

Fall Colors in Lamoille Canyon

There will still be plenty of fall colors to see in Lamoille Canyon in the upper reaches of the canyon that were not impacted by last year’s wildfire. in early to mid October. My favorits spot this year will be Thomas Canyon. Here is a photo from September 29th that gives a hint of what is coming. Contact the Forest Service Office in Elko for up to date information on the colors at (775) 738-5171.

Elko Walking Ghost Tour

Come out to hear true stories of Elko’s spooky and scary past. Tours will be held on October 17, 18, 19, 25, and 26. The walk will include food, drinks and live re-enactments. Tickets are limited and you must be 21 or older. FMI : https://www.facebook.com/ElkoDowntown/
