The month kicks off with egg hunts and Easter brunches on April 1st (but it’s anybody’s guess what the weather will be like since Mother Nature dumped a lot of snow during “Miracle March”). Many churches are holding special Easter services, but places like Red Hawk Golf and Resort and the Nugget Casino Resort are also featuring special Easter events.

Red Hawk Golf and Resort is holding an Easter Brunch buffet from 9am-2pm, a giant Easter Egg Hunt starting at 9:30am, and a special appearance by the Easter Bunny. To view the brunch menu, click here.

The Nugget Casino Resort is also holding a special Easter Brunch Buffet from 10am-3pm in its ballroom. People can choose items from the Cold, Hot, Seafood, Bread, Waffle, and Macaroni & Cheese Stations. Seating is in 15-minute increments and advance reservations are recommended.

As the flowers are coming into bloom and the days start getting longer, now is a good time to get out and meet fellow artists and community members. The Generator hosts a monthly open house every second Sunday from 1pm-4pm (with the next one being on April 8). Check out the 35,000-sq.-ft. space, check out some workshops, try out your skills in an aerial class, and meet some of the artists. The event will be held at The Generator’s headquarters at 1240 Icehouse Avenue.

On April 19, the West Wind Drive-In and Public Market in Sparks is bringing back its family-friendly drive-in movie night! Gates open at 6pm, movies start at 8pm and there’s plenty of fun and games throughout the evening. Featured films include Coco, Jumanji, Peter Rabbit, and Pitch Perfect. Bring everyone you know- it’s free!

The next day, multi Grammy Award winner Dwight Yoakam will be breezing into town, putting on a show at the Nugget with his band of bluegrass luminaries. Yoakam is well-known for his many hit songs, gold and multi-platinum albums, and nearly all of his 40 singles placing on Billboard Country Albums charts. If you’re looking for some good old fashioned fun with a country legend, get your tickets early to see Dwight Yoakam in the Nugget Ballroom on April 20.

One day as I was out and about between meetings, I stopped into Dee’s Bakery & Café for a late lunch. I was blown away by the level of customer service and quality of food I received. I ordered the lunch special of the day — a corned beef and cabbage sandwich with seasoned fries. It was a filling meal — thick slabs of beef sandwiched between toasted marbled rye bread. Dee’s Bakery is family owned and is also the first restaurant in the Reno/Sparks area to offer a full Brazilian food menu. I know I will definitely be back.
