Elko is full of fun activities during August and here are a handful worth checking out:

Movies in the Park

The Northeastern Nevada Museum is showing two classic movies this August behind the museum. Here Comes the Bride, starring Bing Crosby and Jane Wyman, will be shown on August 2nd. On August 9th, The Philadelphia Story with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn will be shown. Both films will start at dusk. Bring your blankets, chairs and popcorn for old fashioned fun.

Patio Dining in Spring Creek

Cook’s Fire Oven and Grill at the Golf Course in Spring Creek is my new favorite for summer patio dining. Their deck overlooks Spring Creek and gives you a great view of sunsets to the West. Add great food, friendly staff and cold drinks you have a perfect way to end your day. FMI – https://www.springcreeknv.org/cook-s-fire-oven—grill.html

Storefront Poetry

What’s going on in storefront windows around downtown Elko? Join Western Folklife Center Staff on August 10th and 21st for a free, docent-led walking tour of their storefront exhibition, Portraits of the Gathering. Learn about the portraits and poetry – and use your mobile device to scan a QR code to listen to the poem, performed by the artist. Tours will meet in front of the Western Folklife Center, 501 Railroad Street, Elko, NV. FMI https://www.westernfolklife.org/

Rancher’s Round-Up BBQ

Want a great meal without any hassles? The 26th annual Rancher’s Roundup BBQ will take place at 5 p.m. August 17 at the Lamoille Rancher’s Center (the old schoolhouse.) Steak dinner tickets cost $20 and hamburger dinner tickets are $8. This is a family event with fun for all ages. Proceeds benefit the Silver Sage FFA Booster Scholarship Fund.

Let’s Dance!

The Western Folklife Center hosts dancing happens every second and fourth Thursday of the month in the G Three Bar Theater. The program starts at 6:30 p.m. with a $5 dance lesson. Open dancing begins at 7 p.m. Adults and teens welcome, no partner or experience necessary. For questions on lesson specifics, email ElkoLetsDance@gmail.com.

Fun at the Fair

The Elko County Fair, from August 23 – September 2, has been mixing families and fun for 99 years! They have entertainment and events for everybody in the family – crafts and critters, the carnival and fair food, horse racing, live music, the stockhorse show, and MORE! New this year – the Country Showdown, America’s oldest and biggest talent search for hot new country musicians! Send out the summer with a big, winning smile – Labor Day Weekend at the Elko County Fair! FMI – https://elkocountyfair.com
