After a crazy winter of snow, rain, and everything in between, the sun is finally starting to come out in Sparks, and with it the birds, flowers, green grass, and fun events! At the end of March, hundreds of people and Nevada congressmen and women gathered at the Sparks Marina to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Veterans Memorial. This statewide monument will recognize and remember more than 890 Nevada service men and women who have given their lives for our freedom. So, while you’re participating in an event or enjoying the day at the Sparks Marina, stop by the west end of the park and check out the details about the project.

Here are some other reasons to get out and about in Sparks this spring:

April 6: Go on a Walk with Your Pup during the Sparks Marina Pack Walk

Real World Canine is inviting local furry four-legged friends to the next Community Pack Walk to be held on April 6 at 10am at the Sparks Marina. Meet at the gazebos, grab some coffee, and walk with fellow dog lovers on a 2-mile loop around the park, receiving some obedience tips along the way. For more information, visit https://rwc-nv.com/ and note that Petco on 1320 East Lincoln Way is having a pet adoption event that same day.

The City of Sparks is also hosting an open call for poems to go along with a pet memorial in the dog park area of the Sparks Marina. The boulders that were used as a retaining wall are being replaced with a more permanent structure, and a grid will be put up to be able to hang dog collars on (like the fence of locks in Lovelock). To go along with this new concept, the City is inviting local poets to add a centerpiece to the memorial. For more information about the Sparks Pet Memorial, visit https://cityofsparks.us/news/.

April 21: Easter Buffet at the Nugget Ballroom

Leave the cooking to the Nugget Casino Resort on Easter Sunday and ensure that everyone in the family gets what they want to eat with the Easter Buffet at the Nugget on April 21. Seatings will be in 30-minute increments from 10am-2:30pm, and a whole bounty of hot and cold salads, meat items, and egg dishes will be available. Reservations are suggested (and required for parties with children), and the cost is $40 per adult and $20 for kids ages 5-11, with  kids ages 4 and under are free. To make a reservation, call 775-356-3300.

In a hurry? Get a quick, cheap, and delicious meal at Super Burrito

Are you in a rush and want a cheap delicious meal that’s easy to grab and go? Then visit the Super Burrito on 175 E. Nugget Avenue. This place has incredible tortas, burritos, and breakfast items served with a delicious mild or hot salsa. It’s quick, good, and the staff is friendly no matter how busy it seems to be. I highly recommend the bacon and egg burrito for $6 paired with a horchata.

Now get out and enjoy springtime in Sparks!
