End of summer hiking

September is one of the best month’s for hiking in Elko County, and there are dozens of trails to choose from that cover hundreds of miles. The easiest to get to are in Lamoille Canyon, located 20 miles from downtown Elko. One of my favorites is the hike to Liberty Pass. It is a moderately strenuous hike of 6 miles round trip. The trail winds it way along Lamoille Creek, past the Dollar Lakes and comes to Lamoille Lake. This is a great spot to rest and cool your feet in the clear water. Past Lamoille Lake, the trail climbs steeply to Liberty Pass and the first views south to Liberty Lake and Lake Peak/Wines Peak in the distance. The pass is a stunning spot to take in the sights from. FMI: https://rubymountaintrails.blogspot.com/

The Murals are coming

Downtown Elko is about to go through an arts transformation September 26-29 with the Elko Mural Expo. The Elko Arts and Cultural Advisory Board have teamed with state non-profit organization Art Spot Reno to bring a large mural exposition and art festival to downtown Elko. 12 local artists, 25 regional artists and 2 international artists will spend four days painting on more than 30 walls of local businesses and public spaces. The muralists will be the stars of the Expo, but they will be accompanied by art lectures, film screenings, live music, workshops, mural tours, an Elko DBA sponsored special wine walk, and urban art exhibits in local downtown galleries. https://artspotreno.org/elko-mural-expo/
