Even though the weather’s been a little stormy and cold lately, the snow has melted, and I can finally see out onto my street again without a big snow berm blocking the view. The weather forecast also hints that it might be turning around and that we have the chance to enjoy some sunny 70-degree beach days coming up. The local golf courses are opening, people are slowly shifting from the mountains to the lake, and we can finally go hiking again. Here are some local events to welcome in warmer days:

Five Dollar Friday Lift Tickets at Squaw Valley Throughout June

Squaw Valley Ski Resort is still making the news, reporting that it plans to keep its lifts turning through July 7th due to the 600 inches of snowfall it received this past winter. Well now, to keep skiers and snowboarders interested in winter, Squaw Valley has teamed up with the Tahoe Fund to offer $5 lift tickets on Fridays throughout June. In order to take advantage of the deal, buy your Friday tickets through www.squawalpine.com up to 48 hours in advance, and the donation will go towards building more bike trails in the Tahoe basin.

June 13 — Wilder Than Wild Community Viewing at the Kings Beach Event Center

Northern Nevada and California are no strangers to wildfire danger, especially up here in the heavily wooded Tahoe Sierra. Therefore, local fire departments, including North Tahoe Fire, the Tahoe Network of Fire Adapted Communities and Meeks Bay Fire, are hosting a public screening of the award-winning documentary Wilder Than Wild at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach on June 13th and another one at the Homewood Mountain Resort North Lodge on June 6. Learn how climate change and fire suppression factors into creating intense wildfires in the Western states and what strategies can be used to mitigate dangerous infernos from further destroying our dry landscapes. Inclined Burgers and Brews Is a Must-Visit

Last autumn, a couple of Incline Village locals decided to pursue their dream and launched a new burger joint in the 7-11 shopping center next to T’s Rotisserie and Incline Cinema. Inclined Burgers and Brews has received rave reviews since its inception, probably due to its simple menu and unique style of cooking. The Inclined Burger is a ¼-lb. beef patty, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and its housemade special sauce served in a Franco bread bun, with the option to add bacon, avocado or a fried egg on it for an extra cost. What sets this place apart from the rest, though, is how they grill the patty — by mashing thinly sliced onions into the raw burger and seasoning it — which creates a thin crust on the meat as it cooks on the flat-top grill. And don’t even get me started on the garlic fries and beer selection — it’s best if you just try it for yourself.
