North Lake Tahoe Correspondence – November 2018

The fall colors are popping in North Lake Tahoe right now, as the aspens turn an incredible shade of gold and other bushes and trees native to the Sierra turn a fiery shade of red. And although we’ve had a record number of bluebird sunny days in Tahoe, freezing temps are creeping in at night allowing some resorts to start making snow. For instance, Mt. Rose announced its earliest opening ever, covering a ski run with the white stuff for season pass holders to enjoy on October 20. Having a base elevation of 8,260 feet allows snow to fall at Mt. Rose a lot more frequently, and hopefully sustained colder temps will let the resort open up on a more consistent basis.

Until we can officially bust out the skis and snowboards though, here are some local annual favorite events coming up before Incline Village/Crystal Bay turns into a winter wonderland:

Nov. 2: First Annual Fall Wine Sale at Glasses

Open for about a year now, Glasses Wine Bar has been a welcome addition to Incline Village by offering a coffee bar-like setting with 26 wines available by the glass and a few that you can even pour yourself out of the dispensers that line the walls. Owned and operated by a former schoolteacher, Kathleen Martens has attempted to create a cozy atmosphere perfect for reading and hanging out with friends.

New this November, Glasses is introducing its first annual wine sale, offering the opportunity to buy dozens of wines from all different regions at 20-50 percent off their retail rate. So if you ever find yourself in the Village Market Shopping Center picking up your mail or grabbing groceries, swing by Glasses and grab some wine at a great price.

Nov. 8: Passport to Dining at the Biltmore in Crystal Bay

North Tahoe’s flavorful fundraiser is back in this once-a-year event where the North Tahoe Business Association invites 30 local restaurants, breweries, and caterers to come out and show off their culinary talents.

On Thursday, November 8 from 6-9pm, foodies from everywhere can in turn come by and try unlimited samples of all of Tahoe’s delicious dishes. Tickets are $40 in advance or $50 day-of and proceeds benefit Project MANA.

 

Nov. 9: New Ski Movies Premiering at Alibi Ale Works

If you need a little extra motivation to get into skiing mode, head over to Alibi Ale Works at 204 E Enterprise Street in Incline Village on November 9 for the showings of two new ski flicks- Before Blank and A Telemark Tale. Doors open at 6pm and the cost is $5 to get in with part of the proceeds benefitting the Sierra Avalanche Center.

Nov. 18: Friendsgiving Pairing Dinner at Brewforia

If you want to have a delicious pre-Thanksgiving feast with friends in Incline before spending the following Thursday with family, then head over to Brewforia for a 5-course meal paired with wine or beer on Sunday, November 18 . Courses include butternut squash soup or oyster stew followed by salad, cheese, and either smoked turkey, prime rib or lobster. Finish it off with a pumpkin soufflé, lemon tart or bourbon pecan bread pudding to make it a pre-Thanksgiving feast to remember. The cost is $70 per person and there are two seatings- one at 2:30pm and 5:30pm.
