Summer Greetings from Elko! There is plenty going in the area, and here are a few activities to check out.

Jarbidge Days

Head to Jarbidge for good old fashioned fun in August. The Annual Jarbidge Days is held on August 10-12. Events include family games, craft sale, parade, live music, cowboy church, and more. FMI:https://www.facebook.com/JarbidgeCommunityAssociationInc/.

Music at the Western Folklife Center

Southwind performs in the historic Pioneer Saloon on Wednesday, August 15th from 6 to 8 p.m. This local band features a variety of music: Celtic, Americana, Folk, and more! This family friendly night is free, the bar is open, and this month they will also be having an ice cream social. FMI: https://www.facebook.com/musicbysouthwind/.

Edible Elko

I’m happy to report that Week’s Fruit stand is open again for the summer at the corner of 12th Street and Clarkson. They bring the freshest fruit and vegetables in from Utah each week. My favorite is their tree-ripened peaches. Call them at (775) 385-0768 for their hours.

Angel Lake Respite

Located 12 miles outside of Wells, Angel Lake is a great spot to escape from the heat in the town. For fishing, swimming, kayaking, picnicking, and camping Angel Lake is a great spot for family recreation. The lake is reached by State Route 231, a 12-mile scenic highway which climbs from Interstate 80’s exit 351 in Wells to the eastern shore of the lake. For updated info on current conditions call the Forest Service in Wells at (775) 752-3357.

Halleck Bar Gallery

Located in the

Northeastern Nevada Museum, the gallery is hosting the quilting work of Ann Johnston through September. Her modern

techniques capture the geology and nature of the West. Meet the artist at a reception on September 14th from 6-8 p.m. Learn more at: https://www.facebook.com/nnmuseum/.

Classic Movie Night in the Park

The Northeastern Nevada Museum is also hosting its Classic Movie Nights on August 17th at 9 p.m. Join the staff for the annual movie

in the park. This year they will be showing “Yours, Mine, and Ours“, starring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda. This film was playing at the Crystal Theater right here in Elko 50 years ago. Head to the city park behind the museum with your lawn chairs, blankets, and bug spray at dusk on August 17.
